From the Beginning

Have a look at the Visual Design Concepts link to get a feeling what 'real' design is all about.

Then open Dreamweaver and a New Page. Have a look at the interface, menus and dialogue windows.

Insert and position the main table and using the Properties floating menu and in the HTML mode select the table and Align centre.

Work out how many table rows you may need. You can always add rows and columns, using the Modify Page Properties command or Properties floating window in HTML mode.

Plan your colour scheme: Each page can be a different colour scheme, or all the same. Be creative in your design. The main page colouring is through Modify Page Properties Appearance for:

Main background.

Text colour - choose one for the site or maybe one for each topic within the site.

Select your font face - Gotham, Helvetica, Arial - is a good one to use.

Leave the font height as the default. You may consider the font height to be Bold.

Background Image - you could do one, but it needs to be at least 1500 x 1000px approximately - refer to the teacher. Also select Repeat.

Margins - set all four to zero.

Links - choose a link colour (which will be the same for - Link Colour, Visited Links, Active Links) and a different colour for the Rollover Link. Make sure the colours work with the table background and not disappear.

Underline style. You can keep Always Underline or change it to Never Underline, as is done with this site's pages.

The table background Colour. This is done by selecting within the table and the colour should differ from the main background colour and must work with the text colour, as in this page

Having set up your basic page layout, you now need to check your page layout style - as to how many rows and tables, where are the images to go, etc.

This is folio design layout time.

Complete the pages. You can copy in more blank pages from the template.

The site theme and topic are open.

You could have a sporting, hobby, interest theme, or even a school project theme. It's up to you for the content and the interface design is the main marking task.

Think of a website theme you will be comfortable working with.

The number of linked pages should be bout 20.

The pages can be long (though not as long as a toilet roll). You can always create more link pages.
