About Metalworking

 

Metalworking is the process of working with metals to create individual parts, assemblies, or large scale structures.

Metalworking covers a wide range of work including:

- large ships

- bridges

- precise engine parts

- delicate jewelry.

It incorporates a wide range of skills, processes, and tools.

Metalworking can also be a:

- science,

- an art,

-a hobby,

- an industry and

- a trade.

Metalworking origins span cultures, civilizations, and thousands of years in History.

Metalworking has evolved from the discovery of smelting various ores (an ore is a type of rock that contains minerals with important elements including metals.

The ores are extracted through mining; these are then refined to extract the valuable element(s)., producing malleable and ductile metal useful for tools and adornments.

Modern metalworking processes, though diverse and specialized, can be categorized as forming, cutting, or joining processes.

Today's machine shop includes a number of machine tools capable of creating a precise, useful work piece.

Assessments:

In term One - there are two (2) Assessment Tasks due.

1/. A small Report on How Steel is Made. There are some resources provided.

2/. Industry Types.

In term 2 - there is one (1) Assessment Task due on Industry Training.

In term 3 - there is currently one (1) Assessment Task due on Equipment Used.

In term 4 - there is one Assessment task due on An Industry Example.
